Cruise Security Officer – Maritime Security Background Preferred

Job Summary:

Houston Skilled Consultancy is seeking highly disciplined and vigilant Cruise Security Officers to ensure the safety and security of passengers, crew, and property aboard luxury cruise ships. This role is ideal for individuals with a background in maritime or military security, who can operate under international maritime law and maintain high standards of surveillance and conflict resolution at sea. You will be a vital part of the ships safety team, monitoring security protocols and acting swiftly in the event of any threat or emergency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of guests, crew, and shipboard assets by patrolling designated areas.

  • Monitor and operate security surveillance systems (CCTV, access controls, etc.).

  • Inspect baggage, cargo, and personnel for unauthorized items during embarkation and disembarkation.

  • Respond to security incidents, manage crowd control, and investigate suspicious activity.

  • Collaborate with ship management and port authorities to maintain legal and procedural compliance.

  • Implement and enforce international maritime security regulations (ISPS Code).

  • Conduct safety drills and participate in emergency response procedures (fire, medical, or evacuation scenarios).

  • Prepare incident reports and maintain daily security logs with accuracy.

  • Assist in preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas on the ship.

  • Escort VIPs or high-risk individuals as necessary.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of shipboard safety and security protocols.

  • Physically fit and mentally alert with excellent observation skills.

  • Basic knowledge of maritime laws and international safety codes (e.g., ISPS).

  • Proficient in the use of security equipment such as metal detectors, radios, and CCTV systems.

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and react swiftly to emergencies.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, especially in dealing with international passengers.

  • Must be fluent in English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in maritime, naval, military, or port security.

  • Previous experience aboard a cruise ship or other commercial vessels is highly preferred.

  • STCW and ISPS training certifications are desirable (or must be willing to obtain before joining).

Working Hours:

  • Full-time contract, typically 12-hour shifts on a rotational basis (6–8 weeks onboard, 2–3 weeks off).

  • Must be available for night shifts, weekends, and holidays as per ship schedule.

  • Deep understanding of risk management and situational awareness.

  • Ability to use conflict resolution tactics and de-escalation techniques.

  • Capability to follow standard operating procedures with strict discipline.
