Embedded Software Engineers

ZimZee Recruiting is seeking a highly experienced Senior Embedded Software Engineer to support the design and development of advanced avionics, power electronics, and battery management systems. This role focuses on embedded software solutions for safety-critical and software-defined products used in aerospace and related industries. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in embedded C development, hardware integration, and system-level troubleshooting while collaborating across engineering disciplines to create innovative, high-reliability products.


Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 10+ years of professional experience developing embedded software systems
  • Strong proficiency in embedded C programming for bare-metal microcontroller systems
  • Experience working directly with target hardware, lab bench equipment, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and debugging tools
  • Ability to design, test, and troubleshoot embedded systems and PCB-level hardware
  • Experience developing software for safety-critical applications and regulated environments
  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-178C, DO-254, or comparable development standards preferred
  • Familiarity with FPGA development and VHDL programming is a plus
  • Experience with Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) methodologies preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement embedded C software for microcontroller-based systems and support FPGA firmware development where applicable
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, components, and engineering methods for integration into next-generation products
  • Develop software-driven solutions for avionics systems, cockpit displays, navigation instruments, battery management systems, and power conversion products
  • Create manufacturing, calibration, and verification tools to support safety-critical product development and production
  • Prototype, execute, and document testing procedures to ensure compliance with performance, regulatory, and quality standards
  • Troubleshoot hardware and embedded systems using lab equipment and hands-on debugging techniques
  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs, ECOs, technical specifications, and work instructions
