Full-Time Package Handler Switcher with Class A CDL

Job Summary

FedEx is seeking a dedicated and safety-focused Full-Time Package Handler Switcher with a Class A CDL to support our fast-paced logistics and transportation operations. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth movement of trailers and freight within the facility yard, as well as assisting with package handling activities when required. The ideal candidate will combine professional driving expertise with hands-on warehouse support, maintaining FedExs high standards of safety, efficiency, and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely maneuver, position, and switch trailers within the yard using yard tractors or Class A vehicles.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working condition.

  • Load, unload, scan, sort, and handle packages as needed to support warehouse operations.

  • Ensure trailers are correctly docked and ready for outbound and inbound schedules.

  • Follow all DOT, OSHA, and FedEx safety regulations and operational procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and dock personnel.

  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation related to vehicle movement and freight handling.

  • Keep the yard, dock, and work areas clean, organized, and hazard-free.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a clean driving record.

  • Ability to safely operate yard switchers, tractors, and other material-handling equipment.

  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and compliance standards.

  • Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull packages of varying weights.

  • Basic computer skills for scanning, logging, and reporting.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Experience

  • Prior experience as a yard switcher, CDL driver, package handler, or warehouse associate preferred.

  • Experience in logistics, transportation, or distribution center environments is an advantage.

Working Hours

  • Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week or more.

  • Shifts may include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours, depending on operational needs.
