The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for preparing, coordinating and performing the development, construction, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and facilities while adhering to required codes, ordinances and specifications. Job Duties and Responsibilities Serves as a licensed Journeyman Electrician on-site at construction, remodeling, and maintenance projects. Inspects and evaluates electrical and electronic equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely, follows recommended maintenance schedule for cleaning and lubricating equipment, and maintains records on equipment status and maintenance. Plans electrical systems additions and modifications on high voltage systems and/or components.

Coordinates with outside contractors on electrical portions of design, development and construction. Studies blueprints and schematics and determines methods, materials, and equipment needed to complete the assignment. Connects wires to plugs, switches, controls, light fixtures, appliances, motors, breaker panels and switchboards.

Splices wires by stripping insulation from wire leads, twisting, clamping, and/or soldering leads together and applying insulating terminal caps using a variety of hand tools, test equipment, and service manuals. Tests installations to check and insure continuity of the circuit, and the compatibility and safety of all components using test equipment such as an ohmmeter, ampmeter, voltmeter, or oscilloscope. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit, junction boxes, switches, outlet boxes, and switchboards using hand tools and such special equipment as mechanical drills, cutters, benders, and threaders.

Installs and repairs light fixtures, electrical controls, motors, and appliances using hand tools and electric drills. Inspects and evaluates electrical equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely; determines whether equipment and new installations meet requirements of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Contributes to saving animals in the wild through reduction of waste, water and energy use andinspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions.

Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or eight (8) years at a Journeyman level related experience and/or training; Licensed Journeyman Electrician Must maintain a valid Texas issued driver’s license and comply with zoo driving policy.
