This job was posted by : For more<br><br>information, please see: City of Wichita is NOT an E-Verify Employer.**<br><br>**Distinguishing Features of Work**<br><br>The Network Engineer is responsible for planning, designing,<br><br>implementing, and maintaining network and system infrastructure<br><br>supporting airport data communications networks and computer systems.<br><br>This role plans, analyzes, and provides technical support for data<br><br>communications networks and related computer systems to ensure reliable<br><br>operation and performance. Responsibilities include managing and<br><br>maintaining network infrastructure such as switches, routers, firewalls,<br><br>and related equipment; resolving technical issues; performing system<br><br>backups; developing disaster recovery procedures; maintaining the<br><br>security of network and system environments; and managing and<br><br>maintaining the airports telephony systems, including analog, digital,<br><br>and Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies.<br><br>The position collaborates with vendors and other stakeholders to support<br><br>infrastructure needs and provides technical guidance and training to<br><br>users. The role functions as part of a team environment and includes<br><br>cross-training, with the expectation of assisting other team members<br><br>with related duties as needed.<br><br>The role requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving ability,<br><br>and effective communication to support the reliable operation of airport<br><br>network infrastructure.<br><br><ul><li>\*\*Posting may close at any time\*\***<br><br></li></ul>**Examples of Work Performed**<br><br><ul><li> Document troubleshooting procedures, workflows, and system<br><br></li></ul>specifications.<br><br><ul><li> Plan, design, install, configure, and maintain networked information<br><br></li></ul>systems and servers on an as needed basis.<br><br><ul><li> Coordinate and perform system maintenance, including software, OS<br><br></li></ul>upgrades, and patches.<br><br><ul><li> Implement and manage network configurations and ensure security<br><br></li></ul>compliance.<br><br><ul><li> Monitor system configurations, maintain data files, and run/automate<br><br></li></ul>reports.<br><br><ul><li> Test and evaluate network and system performance, troubleshoot<br><br></li></ul>issues, and implement improvements.<br><br><ul><li> Handles technical issues and major incidents through hands-on<br><br></li></ul>troubleshooting.<br><br><ul><li> Develop and maintain reliable backup and recovery procedures for<br><br></li></ul>networks and systems assigned.<br><br><ul><li> Assist in system capacity planning.</li><li> Manage and maintaining telephony infrastructure, assisted by team<br><br></li></ul>members.<br><br><ul><li> Manage vendor and consultant relationships to support infrastructure<br><br></li></ul>needs.<br><br><ul><li> Ensure adherence to project deadlines and maintain effective<br><br></li></ul>communication with stakeholders.<br><br><ul><li> Provide technical support, training, and quality control through<br><br></li></ul>testing and error correction.<br><br><ul><li> Recommends upgrades, new applications, and equipment.</li><li> Relies on limited knowledge and professional discretion to achieve<br><br></li></ul>goals.<br><br><ul><li> Works under general supervision though some ingenuity and<br><br></li></ul>flexibility is required.<br><br><ul><li> Should be familiar with scripting languages such as Ruby and Python.<br><br></li></ul>**Requirements of Work**<br><br><ul><li> Thorough knowledge of LAN/WAN data and voice transmission methods<br><br></li></ul>and means.<br><br><ul><li> Considerable knowledge of large-scale network hardware, software,<br><br></li></ul>LAN/WAN technologies, virtualization, wireless data communications,<br><br>cybersecurity, and telephony.<br><br><ul><li> Ability to gather proper data for analysis for problem resolution.</li><li> Ability to analyze documents, files and reports related to workflow.</li><li> Ability to quickly and effectively communicate with vendors and<br><br></li></ul>non-technical staff<br><br><ul><li> Ability to identify and incorporate technology that provides value<br><br></li></ul>towards attaining organizational goals.<br><br><ul><li> Thorough knowledge of project management to plan, evaluate and<br><br></li></ul>implement projects across departmental lines.<br><br><ul><li> Ability to develop return on investment calculations for technology<br><br></li></ul>investments.<br><br><ul><li> Ability to effectively p an, organize and supervise the work of<br><br></li></ul>others.<br><br><ul><li> Ability to provide lower-level staff or subordinates with effective<br><br></li></ul>training and growth opportunities.<br><br><ul><li> Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in<br><br></li></ul>writing.<br><br><ul><li> May require ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver\'s<br><br></li></ul>license.<br><br><ul><li> An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety<br><br></li></ul>of other individuals in the workplace.<br><br>\<br><br>Applicants have rights under Federal Employment Laws.
