OT Scada Engineer (Energy)

SCADA Architect / Senior SCADA Engineer 12-Month Contract | UK Based | Competitive Day Rate

We are seeking an experienced SCADA Architect or Senior SCADA Engineer to support a major energy and utilities programme focused on the modernisation and optimisation of operational technology, network management and smart grid infrastructure. This role will play a key part in the design, integration and enhancement of SCADA, ADMS, EMS and DERMS platforms supporting electricity distribution, transmission and renewable energy operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and support enterprise-scale SCADA architectures and solutions.
  • Lead the integration of SCADA platforms with ADMS, EMS and DERMS environments.
  • Deliver real-time telemetry, monitoring and control capabilities across operational networks.
  • Support Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Network Management Systems (NMS) initiatives.
  • Define and implement OT communications strategies, including RTU and substation integrations.
  • Collaborate with operational, engineering and technology teams to improve network visibility and resilience.
  • Support smart grid, renewable integration and grid modernisation programmes.
  • Provide technical leadership across SCADA and OT workstreams.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, cyber security requirements and best practices.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as a SCADA Architect, Lead SCADA Engineer or Senior SCADA Engineer.
  • Strong background working within energy, utilities, electricity transmission or distribution environments.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more: ADMS (Advanced Distribution Management Systems) EMS (Energy Management Systems) DERMS (Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems)
  • Strong understanding of Distribution Management Systems (DMS).
  • Experience delivering telemetry and remote monitoring solutions.
  • Knowledge of OT environments and industrial control systems.
  • Experience integrating RTUs, substations and field devices.
  • Familiarity with industry protocols including: IEC 61850 IEC 60870-5-101/104 DNP3 OPC
  • Understanding of network control centre operations and smart grid technologies.

Desirable Experience

  • Renewable energy integration projects.
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Distributed energy resources and flexibility markets.
  • OT cyber security programmes.
  • Experience with platforms such as Siemens Spectrum Power, Schneider Electric ADMS, GE PowerOn, OSI Monarch, Hitachi Energy Network Manager or ABB Network Manager.
