QA Engineer

A New Product Development Quality Engineer at Black Diamond works with design and product teams to make sure new products are safe, reliable, and ready for production. This includes developing test plans, evaluating prototypes, analyzing failures, completing risk assessments, and using data to guide quality recommendations before products reach customers.

POSITION SUMMARY

By utilizing engineering fundamentals as well as the knowledge from real-world field experience, the Quality Engineer ensures the quality of all Black Diamond Equipment product and;
• Creates and executes testing models for the analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished goods.
• Performs quality tasks in new product development projects, including meeting phase gate deliverables and supporting quality plans.
• Develop requirements, conduct inspection and testing of raw materials, components, prototypes, and finished products.
• Performs statistical and graphical analysis of test data to determine strength ratings of products and components.
• Maintains quality records, including test data, design information, and product ratings.
• Conducts investigations related to proposed design changes, material qualifications, or manufacturing issues.
• Completes User Risk Assessments (URA) and contributes to product safety and reliability efforts.
• Provides technical feedback from lab and field use to support product design and development.
• Takes ownership of assigned product categories and is responsible for all QA deliverables as defined by the product creation phase gate deliverable checklist.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Automation, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related science

Alternative: Master's degree in Automation, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related science. 4+ years of demonstrated experience without an engineering degree.

Skills and general experience:
Required: Skilled in materials science, statistics, data acquisition, and failure analysis, with expertise in database management, word processing, and spreadsheets. Proficient in implementing technical procedures, presenting findings, identifying trends, and making data-driven recommendations.

Preferred: All of the above plus:
• strong SPC background
• experience with ISO 9001
• experience traveling to and working at overseas OEM factories
• passion for the outdoors, climbing, hiking, and/or back country skiing/riding experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
General physical requirements: Light work; occasional Medium to Heavy work. Some overseas travel to OEM factories may be required.
Visual acuity requirements: Close vision, Color Vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, Ability to adjust focus.
Motion and sensory requirements: Climbing, Balancing, Stooping, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Pulling, Lifting, Fingering, Grasping, Feeling, And Talking.
Physical working conditions: Oils, inside atmosphere, Hazards

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Perform quality engineering tasks throughout the product development cycle
2. Analyze test data and prepare written and verbal reports, including quality recommendations
3. Maintain product testing records and quality documentation
4. Create and execute testing instructions, test equipment procedures, and inspection documentation
5. Support lab organization and maintenance using 5S practices
6. Complete User Risk Assessments and related quality documentation
7. Provide user feedback based on field testing or personal use of products
