In this full-time, remote-first role you will translate clinical documentation into accurate, compliant codes (ICD-10-CA, CCI) to support claims readiness, denial prevention, reporting, and coding quality programs while protecting PHI and meeting productivity targets.

What You Will Do

  • Review charts, provider notes, operative reports, diagnostics, and discharge summaries in EMR/EHR systems
  • Abstract relevant clinical details and assign ICD-10-CA diagnosis codes and CCI intervention/procedure codes
  • Apply sequencing rules, coding conventions, and client/payer/provincial requirements where applicable
  • Identify documentation gaps and submit compliant CDI queries for clarification
  • Support pre-bill/post-bill edits, claims review, and denial prevention initiatives
  • Participate in QA, internal audits, and guideline updates; respond to audit feedback
  • Maintain accuracy, turnaround time, and throughput expectations in a fully remote workflow
  • Follow PHIPA and provincial privacy requirements with secure access controls and handling procedures

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of recent medical coding experience in a Canadian healthcare, hospital, clinic, or RCM setting
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CA and CCI coding conventions, abstracting, and sequencing
  • Experience with chart review, coding edits, and QA/audit feedback loops
  • Comfort using EMR/EHR systems and structured clinical documentation workflows
  • Strong written communication for documentation queries and audit responses
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams/time zones

Preferred Qualifications

  • HIM background and familiarity with Canadian health data standards
  • Exposure to inpatient/outpatient/ED/surgery/specialty coding at volume
  • Denials management, appeals support, or payer correspondence experience
  • Participation in formal coding audits, education, or guideline training
  • Familiarity with coding analytics and documentation improvement initiatives
