Job Title: School Nurse<br><br>Location: School Based<br><br>Pay Grade: Nurse Salary Scale<br><br>Work Calendar: 10 Month 200 Day Employee<br><br>FLSA Status: Exempt<br><br><strong>GENERAL PURPOSE<br><br></strong>Under the supervision of the building principals and Coordinator of Health Services, this position provides health services and leadership in establishing a complete and effective program of school health.<br><br><strong>Main Job Tasks And Responsibilities<br><br></strong>Provide Health Services to Students<br><br><ul><li>Interprets state and federal and School Board Policy and regulations regarding health requirements and immunization documentation for all new students.</li><li>Establishes and maintains a school health record for each student based on best practice, SCPS Health Services protocols and State Standards for Accreditation for Public Schools in Virginia.</li><li>Maintains and adequately supervises the school health clinic.</li><li>Provides nursing intervention for acute illness and injury of students and staff and supports student’s health needs for returning to class whenever possible and approves early dismissals, as appropriate.</li><li>Supervises and documents medication/treatment administration in accordance with the Virginia Department of Education guidelines by a licensed health care provider and SCPS Health Services protocols.</li><li>Administers individual screening of vision, hearing, and scoliosis; and evaluate refer, and follow-ups as required by Virginia school law and School Board regulations.</li><li>Makes home visits in conjunction with other support staff to assist with health-related absentee problems when appropriate.</li><li>Protects the health of students and staff by controlling disease outbreak and spread of communicable diseases through enforcement of health practices, health department protocols and school policies.<br><br></li></ul>Provide Training and Support to Administration and Staff<br><br><ul><li>Collaborates with educational staff and parents in assessing the health needs of students to prepare and implement health service care plans needed and provide chronic disease case management.</li><li>Participates on School Crisis Team, 504 and Student Support Committee, as needed, in planning, prevention and implementation.</li><li>Completes necessary forms and procedures for Blood borne Pathogen Exposure incidents and situations related to Workers Compensation as outlined in Exposure Control Plan and School Board Policy and Regulations.</li><li>Implements training for staff members of workplace safety guidelines and Bloodborne Pathogens as required through OSHA and related to Workers’ Compensation. Provide first aid and referrals for staff for Workers’ Compensation claims.</li><li>Provides staff education and training related to medication administration, diabetes, asthma, allergy, anaphylaxis recognition and treatment, according to SCPS School Board policy and Code of Virginia.</li><li>Maintains a liaison with health care providers and other community agencies to support student health, wellness and independence of personal health care.</li><li>Provides emergency assessment, triage, and treatment as first responder for staff and students while coordinating care through EMT services and school administration.</li><li>Acts as a resource upon request by teacher, principal, student and or parent.<br><br></li></ul>Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford County Public Schools<br><br><ul><li>Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position.</li><li>Respond promptly and thoroughly to written and oral requests for information.</li><li>Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.</li><li>Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.</li><li>Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.</li><li>Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.</li><li>Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality.</li><li>Perform other related duties as required/assigned.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Education And Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a graduate of an accredited program of registered nursing and hold a current license to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia</li><li>Two (2) years successful nursing experience.
