Job Title: School Nurse<br><br>Location: School Based<br><br>Pay Grade: Nurse Salary Scale<br><br>Work Calendar: 10 Month 200 Day Employee<br><br>FLSA Status: Exempt<br><br><strong>GENERAL PURPOSE<br><br></strong>Under the supervision of the building principals and Coordinator of Health Services, this position provides health services and leadership in establishing a complete and effective program of school health.<br><br><strong>Main Job Tasks And Responsibilities<br><br></strong>Provide Health Services to Students<br><br><ul><li>Interprets state and federal and School Board Policy and regulations regarding health requirements and immunization documentation for all new students.</li><li>Establishes and maintains a school health record for each student based on best practice, SCPS Health Services protocols and State Standards for Accreditation for Public Schools in Virginia.</li><li>Maintains and adequately supervises the school health clinic.</li><li>Provides nursing intervention for acute illness and injury of students and staff and supports student’s health needs for returning to class whenever possible and approves early dismissals, as appropriate.</li><li>Supervises and documents medication/treatment administration in accordance with the Virginia Department of Education guidelines by a licensed health care provider and SCPS Health Services protocols.</li><li>Administers individual screening of vision, hearing, and scoliosis; and evaluate refer, and follow-ups as required by Virginia school law and School Board regulations.</li><li>Makes home visits in conjunction with other support staff to assist with health-related absentee problems when appropriate.</li><li>Protects the health of students and staff by controlling disease outbreak and spread of communicable diseases through enforcement of health practices, health department protocols and school policies.<br><br></li></ul>Provide Training and Support to Administration and Staff<br><br><ul><li>Collaborates with educational staff and parents in assessing the health needs of students to prepare and implement health service care plans needed and provide chronic disease case management.</li><li>Participates on School Crisis Team, 504 and Student Support Committee, as needed, in planning, prevention and implementation.</li><li>Completes necessary forms and procedures for Blood borne Pathogen Exposure incidents and situations related to Workers Compensation as outlined in Exposure Control Plan and School Board Policy and Regulations.</li><li>Implements training for staff members of workplace safety guidelines and Bloodborne Pathogens as required through OSHA and related to Workers’ Compensation.
