The Sr Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing support to the legal team in a manner that better enables the legal team to transact business. This employee has contact with other company departments, outside law firms, and other outside organizations.

In this role you will:

  • Support corporate governance and entity management for a growing insurance organization, ensuring legal and compliance records are accurate, well-organized, and audit-ready.
  • Prepare, file, and manage corporate insurer and individual licensing and regulatory filings across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring full compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Own and track critical deadlines, proactively prioritizing work and ensuring timely completion of recurring filings, reporting obligations, and special projects.
  • Identify and implement improvements to processes and recordkeeping systems to increase efficiency, transparency, and scalability within the legal and compliance function
  • Have meaningful responsibility and visibility across a large corporate footprint, while being provided an opportunity to shape and improve governance processes
  • Provide counsel and guidance to corporate personnel in various activities to protect the Corporation's interests from a legal perspective and prevent legal disputes from occurring
  • Ensure Corporate compliance with all relevant Federal, State and local laws, regulations and ordinances
  • Assist in research, review, analysis, drafting and approval of various documents, policies, procedures and obligations to which the Company is or may become a party
  • Coordinate non-claims litigation and disputes, including managing document collection, working with outside counsel, and tracking matter status
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance and regulatory development relevant to the business, proactively identifying potential impacts

What makes You an ideal candidate?

  • Experience supporting corporate governance and legal operations, including maintaining corporate records, managing entity documentation, and supporting board or committee processes
  • Proficiency with insurer and individual licensing and regulatory filings, including familiarity with systems such as SERFF, NIPR, NAIC UCAA, and state insurance department platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and recordkeeping systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to track deadlines, prioritize competing demands, and manage both recurring and ad hoc work in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of insurance regulatory requirements (preferably auto insurance law) and applicable federal, state, and local laws
  • Experience conducting legal research, analysis, and drafting of documents, policies and procedures
  • Ability to provide practical guidance to internal stakeholders to mitigate risk and support business objectives
  • Proficiency in legal and business tools, including NILS, Lexis, Microsoft Office Suite, and document management systems
  • Proficient knowledge of corporate files
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex concepts both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams and maintaining strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with litigation coordination and evidence gathering, including working with internal teams and external counsel

Education & Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 5+ years of relevant insurance industry experience required

Additional Knowledge and Skills

Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:
  • Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
  • Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
  • Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
  • Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
  • Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection

The base range for this role is: $73.500 - $147.000

At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education.

This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
