Staff Software Engineer (United States)

About Thatcher Technology Group (TTG)

The Opportunity: Staff Software Engineer

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to serve as the most senior individual contributor on TTG’s engineering team — the technical leader who takes end-to-end ownership of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and full-stack application support across our direct selling software platform. You’ll set technical direction across the entire stack — from AWS infrastructure and Kubernetes operations to C#/.NET development, database and messaging systems, and AI-augmented engineering workflows — while dedicating a meaningful share of your time to mentoring engineers, guiding technical decisions, and shaping how the team builds. This is a hands-on, high-impact role at a company with 25+ years of domain depth and a platform deployed across hundreds of global organizations.

Location: Remote (Canada or US)

What You’ll Own

Cloud Infrastructure & CI/CD

  • Configure and maintain AWS services including VPCs, EC2 instances, queues, DocumentDB, load balancers, security groups, Kubernetes clusters, and container repositories, along with network security controls (firewalls, WAF, and network ACLs).
  • Build and manage Jenkins jobs and CI/CD pipelines that produce deployment artifacts, including ZIP packages and Docker images; maintain Kubernetes deployment configurations (kubectl, YAML).
  • Write Linux utility scripts to support cluster management, automate deployments and operational tasks, and troubleshoot infrastructure issues across distributed environments.

Full-Stack Development & Integrations

  • Develop and maintain applications in C#, T-SQL, Vue, HTML, and CSS; troubleshoot issues across the full stack including UI, API, database, messaging, and deployment layers.
  • Build and maintain core application services on ServiceStack and the LLBLGen ORM data-access layer; customize and support platform-integrated applications such as Umbraco and Identity Server.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot integrations between internal systems and external platforms; manage Git-based source control workflows (GitHub/GitLab) including branching, code reviews, and coordinated deployments.

Databases & Messaging

  • Work with SQL Server and T-SQL for querying, troubleshooting, and supporting application data.
  • Support MongoDB/DocumentDB document storage and reason about relational and document database usage across application services.
  • Design and support event-based, message-driven architecture using MassTransit over message brokers such as Amazon SQS, RabbitMQ, and Apache MQ across distributed application services.

AI-Augmented Engineering

  • Apply AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Devin) to coding, debugging, documentation, and PR workflows to measurably improve team productivity.
  • Review, validate, and govern AI-generated code and infrastructure-as-code; evaluate emerging AI productivity tools and recommend adoption across engineering teams.
  • Adapt deployment processes and engineering practices as platform requirements and tooling evolve.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor and guide engineers across the stack, raising the bar on code quality, architecture, and operational practices.
  • Lead technical decisions and provide hands-on guidance on complex, cross-cutting problems from development through production troubleshooting.
  • Partner with engineering leadership to set technical direction, plan coordinated releases, and onboard and grow team members.

Who You Are
  • 8+ years of experience in software, DevOps, or platform engineering, including time as a senior individual contributor or technical lead, with hands-on AWS infrastructure management (VPCs, EC2, Kubernetes, load balancers, and network security controls such as firewalls, WAF, and network ACLs).
  • Strong full-stack development skills in C# and T-SQL, including hands-on experience building services with ServiceStack and the LLBLGen ORM, with supporting experience in Vue, HTML, and CSS, and the ability to troubleshoot across UI, API, database, messaging, and deployment layers.
  • Proven CI/CD experience with Jenkins and strong command of Docker and Kubernetes operations (kubectl, YAML deployment configs), plus Linux scripting for operational tasks.
  • Experience with SQL Server, MongoDB/DocumentDB, and event-based, message-driven systems (MassTransit, Amazon SQS, RabbitMQ, or Apache MQ).
  • Proficiency with Git-based source control workflows (GitHub or GitLab), including branching strategies, code reviews, and coordinated deployments.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical decisions, balancing hands-on contribution with guidance and team development.

Strongly Preferred

  • Demonstrated use of AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Devin) to accelerate development and improve code quality in daily engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with CMS and identity platforms such as Umbraco and Identity Server.
  • Experience supporting complex distributed applications from development through deployment and production troubleshooting.

Why TTG?
  • Deep domain expertise: 25+ years building software for direct selling and MLM means you’ll work on complex, mission-critical systems — not generic SaaS infrastructure.
  • Stability with momentum: backed by Fluent Software Group (Valsoft), you get the resources and longevity of a global acquirer with the ownership culture of a focused product team.
  • Real technical leadership: as the most senior IC on the team, you’ll shape DevOps and engineering practices on a mature, widely-deployed platform — with the autonomy to make it better.
