Job Description We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Subtitler / Captioner to join our dynamic media team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating high-quality subtitles and captions for a diverse range of video content, ensuring accessibility and enhancing the viewing experience for global audiences. You will work with various media formats, upholding strict quality standards, timing accuracy, and adherence to specific style guides. This is a crucial role for ensuring our content is accessible and engaging for everyone. Key Responsibilities • Transcribe audio content accurately and create synchronized subtitles and captions for various video assets. • Ensure precise timing and placement of subtitles to align with on-screen dialogue and visual cues. • Adhere strictly to style guides, linguistic conventions, and accessibility standards (e.g., ADA, FCC guidelines). • Perform quality control checks on existing subtitles and captions, identifying and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and synchronization. • Collaborate with content producers, editors, and localization teams to meet project deadlines and quality expectations. • Utilize professional subtitling and captioning software effectively. • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. • Stay informed about industry best practices and evolving accessibility requirements. Required Skills • Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. • Proficiency with subtitling and captioning software (e.g., Aegisub, Ooona, Trados Subtitle Editor). • Strong understanding of timing and synchronization principles. • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Familiarity with various media formats and video editing principles. Preferred Qualifications • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field. • Previous experience (2+ years) in subtitling, captioning, or transcription within the media industry. • Experience with accessibility standards and guidelines (e.g., WCAG, ADA). • Proficiency in additional languages is a plus. • Familiarity with content management systems and workflows in a media production environment.
