Teachers are responsible for appropriate instruction and support in core academic areas and work-ready skills. The goals set for students include but are not limited to Basic Skills instruction in Reading, Writing and Math, GED or High School Diploma, and/or acquisition of English language. Teachers must know how to interpret mandated assessments and design student programs based upon the results of these assessments. Teachers in adult education must be flexible because assignments and sites may change according to program needs. Essential Duties 1. Provide individualized, small group and large group instruction in areas of academic and career needs. 2. Interpret student achievement using TABE, OPT, BEST PLUS and other assessments and design individual instructional programs based upon the results. 3. Provide instruction in adult education areas through integrated technology and career pathways. 4. Recruit and retain students in the adult education program. 5. Cooperate with and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the total adult education program. 6. Attend local, regional, state and national professional development programs. Commit to personal and professional growth. 7. Carry out the policies, rules, and regulations of Horry County Schools, the State of South Carolina and other responsibilities as outlined by the Director. 8. Understand and implement the assessment policy provided by the State Department of Education. 9. Collaborate with community agencies providing services to adults. 10. Provide for the care and protection of school/adult site property. Other Duties Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be necessary and assigned by the Director or other appropriate administrator. Job Specifications To successfully perform in this position, an individual must be able and willing to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required) 1. Certification as required by the state in ESOL. 2. Knowledge to teach core curriculum materials. 3. Ability to engage multiple learning styles and multiple levels by using differentiated instruction techniques. 4. Skills to adapt to flexible scheduling and assignments. 5. Other professional and personal qualifications as deemed necessary for acceptable fulfillment of responsibilities. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl. Duties may involve risk resulting from attending to students' behavioral, physical or sanitation/hygiene needs. Individual should be able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone and, speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone. Work Environment The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
